San Bernardino 2007
Nov 26-28:
I made it to Williams just as planed. I noticed that the
new truck tires looked a little saggy when I hooked up the trailer so I
stopped by the tire store on my way out of town. Glad that I did they had 55
lbs and should be 70!
The hills are now behind me at least until I get to the
Grape Vine. Tomorrow will be the dull part of I-5 then the traffic of LA on
Wednesday, yea!
Well, another 300 miles of smashing bugs on the windshield
and I found Lost Hills. I'm set up for the night and only have about 4 hours
to go.
I did the last leg of my trip to San Berdu today. I
started in Lost Hills got up and flipped on the TV to hear about Santa Ana
Winds which woke me right up. The weather man said that it wouldn't be that
bad, gusts to 50 mph below the passes and would be tapering off between 8:00
and 10:00. I went into town and filled up with diesel. The pump stopped at
$75 and the truck wasn't full so I had to run the credit card through a second
time.
Hook up the trailer and found an IHOP about 30 miles down
the road for breakfast. I hit the bottom of the Grapevine about 10:30 and
made it to the top. It was breezy around Gorman but not real bad. I slowed
down to about 50 and no problems. I should have known that you can always
depend on Fontana! I kept slowing down and found myself doing 40 on the
freeway! I got off and crept across Baseline the rest of the way. Once in
San Berdu the wind stopped and I checked in to the campground. They even gave
me the same spot I had before.
During the check in they ran the deposit through the credit
card and then the first month and three days. This was just too much for
MasterCard. Two fuel charges, breakfast and two charges for the campground,
REJECT. The manager had to leave for his other job and said go ahead and park
and we will straighten this out later. I set up the trailer for a long term
stay and finally got around to the computer. There is a message from
MasterCard, "Call Us Now". I did and all is well. They promised to
let the other charge go through.
I was wondering what to have for dinner then opened the Fed
Ex package that had arrived here for me today. That takes care of dinner,
cheese crackers sausage. Thanks Roberta.
Bye the way Tisha they have thermometers that go past 60
here! A pleasant 75 degrees. Guess I can put away the long sleeve shirts.
