Dodge City, Kansas
June 29, 2007: I took a little ride to Greensburg this morning. If you think you are having a bad day take a look at the result of a tornado that went through this town about 8 weeks ago.

June 26, 2007: I followed the Santa Fe Trail for most of the last leg of the trip to Dodge City so thought I should find out some more about it. I took off this morning on a 'self-guided' tour of Dodge City historical sites the brochure listed 7 sites around the town. I found the first couple of places and noticed that 4 of the 7 had the note "no evidence of them remains today"! I did make it to a spot about 5 miles west of town where if you look real hard you can see the wagon tracks on the Santa Fe Trail. Kinda neat!

June 25, 2007: Getting settled in and doing chores today. Finished hooking up the trailer and picked up some flyers about the area did laundry. Below are some pictures of the campground.
The two below show the highway outside the park. Sure is flat! | |
June 24, 2007: On the road early this morning, 7:45, well it's early for me! Took Highway 10 to La Junta and saw 10 cars in the first 60 miles! I saw more deer than that! Lots of grazing land and cattle. As the land flattened out I began to see farms as I approached the Kansas state line. More and more farming as I went farther east, alfalfa, corn, wheat and cattle feed lots. You may think that you know what a large feed lot smells like, YOU DON'T!
You may have noticed the bugs on the windshield. It was clean when I started! |
