DC to Boston

June 6, 2006

Here is a picture of the lake at the park, not far from my camp space.  You can see the water park on the far shore.

It must have been animal week today.  On the way to breakfast I saw two deer, squirrels, birds, geese and vultures all in the park.

I made it to the "Sunset Parade" at the Marine Memorial.  It took an hour to cover the 25 miles to the memorial and most people were going the other way!  Note the "dignitary" seating at the bottom.  Before the parade I was talking with a young sergeant and just before parade time he came back up into the crowd and asked if I would like to sit with the invited guests!  I thought about it for a few micro-seconds and said yes!  I wasn't the only one to be asked, they wanted to fill up the seats but, I think the biker vest with the Viet Nam Veteran patch had something to do with it.  There I was a couple of rows behind the brass.

Sunset Parade

Yea, I forgot to bring extra batteries!  I don't have pictures of the "pass in revue" the 21 gun salute or the bugler standing on the top of the base of the monument, playing taps.  It was a moving experience.

At the end of the parade the Marines formed up on both sides of the walkway and in typical Marine fashion and saluted everything that moved down the walk!  Imagine, me getting saluted by Marines, even a bird colonel.  It should have been the other way around.

Lincoln Monument

Headstones at the National Cemetery

Next is Hershey and the Chocolate Factory.

The chocolate stuff is like Disneyland!  Not what I expected! The lights downtown are kisses
I do like the farms and countryside.
