Patriot Guard Riders

Missions 2010

by BethieA

Why do we wait Why do we, time and time again Gather and meet for a funeral of yet Another young soldier Faces showing sadness and Etched with the lines of time and pain So many memories Relived over and over as we wait All of us connected to this and To each other Whether by being brothers and sisters On the battlefield in some long ago war Or being a veteran of the support forces Or being the father or mother Or brother or sister or wife or husband Of someone serving or long departed Feeling so much Things we don't want to feel again But can never stop feeling And in waiting to pay respect and honor For another hero We somehow are able to feel some closure Some lessening of the ache that is always There So we wait We wait for another hearse to stop Another flag draped coffin to emerge Stand in another flag line Pay our respects and Say our goodbyes Then once again We wait

To my special veteran friends,

My Father ended his life thinking no one cared about him. Today he saw, from above, that isn't true. I knew that if I was the only one who showed up today he could never feel that way again. To my pleasant surprise, there was a whole family of veterans who came to show my Father that he was not alone.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart,

Apr 12, 2010 William “Bill” Boyle

My name is Anne Juedes and my Dad, William “Bill” Boyle passed away this last Tuesday, March 23rd with Services being held on April 12th. I would like to share with you his story of a road that was less traveled by most Americans. William James Boyle was a USA Corporal in Company E, 160th Infantry. His participating campaigns and battles were: Naples – Foggia, Southern France Rhineland and Central Europe. Later in life he was often asked if he was promoted in rank. Dad would chuckle, and say when fellow soldiers were dropping left and right it did not matter, it only mattered to do a good job and band together.  Once he returned to the States, he resumed his original status.

Bill was wounded in France Sept. 12th, 1944. He was placed in a P.O.W. Camp in Germany. I know any P.O.W. survivor would know the conditions that would become his world. As a good soldier, my dad escaped twice. The 1st time Dad made it to the safety of a barn only to be caught by a farmer who turned him in for food. The 2nd time he made it all the way to the Swiss Border and was captured by a band of Nazi solders. By all rights he should have been executed. In he P.O.W. camp the prisoners worked 16 hours or more a day. He was given a pail for use as a toilet. Food consisted of half of a raw potato and sawdust bread on Sundays. At the end of the war, orders were received from Nazi Headquarters for the execution of all prisoners, but the ranking Nazi Officer refused to carry out these orders.

Later on in life when asked, “do you hate the Germans”, he would simply say they were only doing what their country asked of them.

Bill's Decorations and Citations: Distinguished Unit Badge, WWII Victory Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, P.O.W. Medal of Honor – issued by the State of California and National P.O.W. Medal

My Dad is the greatest man I know. My greatest wish is to show with love, the honor and patriotism that this gentle, loving man has earned. This loving man was not one to tell his hardships or complain. I am requesting a Military funeral with full honors including escort, 21- gun salute and taps. William “Bill” Boyle is a symbol of all fellow veterans that shared “the road less traveled”.
William Boyle

On January 24 2004 SPC Jason K. Chappell was attacked and killed by an IED.  This was before the PGR was formed. His parents live in Downey CA. Jason’s wife  chose to have him interred in Texas.  Recently his parents began supporting our Fallen by attending local missions and have asked the PGR Honor their son.  On Wednesday 27 January 2010 the PGR had a Memorial Mission to honor SPC Chappell with full Military Honors and the placement of a Memorial Leaf on the Memorial tree at RNC.

1 Jan 2010  Lance Cpl. Omar G. Roebuck  USMC Age 23.

The new year started with this "short notice" mission.  The mission was posted on New Years Eve.  The So Cal PGR stepped up to the occasion with about 60 bikes, 2 trikes and 10 cages which includes the 10 "First Timers" which all decided that this mission was more important than any parade!  We provided an escort for Lance Corporal Roebuck and his family.
